LAN Bypass User Guide
Introduction
Supermicro’s A1SRM-LN7F/LN5F Series motherboard provides three or two pair
of LAN bypass (Fail-to-Wire) ports for high availability, reliability, and redundancy
per application requirements. Each LAN pair ports can operate in Normal, Bypass,
or Passive mode.
Normal mode: Data travels into the motherboard and is processed by the host
server prior to being transmitted back to the network.
Bypass mode: LAN controller is disconnected from the ports and the port pair
is connected together into a single pipe whereby data packets received from
one port are transmitted to the other port, bypassing the host server failure and
maintaining network connectivity.
Passive mode: Operates in Normal mode when the motherboard is powered on,
and in Bypass mode when motherboard loses power.
The A1SRM-LN7F/LN5F Series motherboard has options to set the LAN mode
using the BIOS setup or IPMI Web GUI.
Note 1: When the LAN ports or LAN pairs are in Bypass mode or Passive
mode, the Wake-On-LAN function is disabled to related ports.
Note 2: LAN ports default settings are in Passive mode as factory default.
